GCSE results 2024: strong upward trend continues
Headteacher Paula Whyte celebrates improvement on last year's figures and praises students' focus and resilience.
Having celebrated excellent A-Level results last week with 48% grades A*/A/B, the assembly hall at St Aloysius’ College was alive with excitement as boys opened their GCSE exam result envelopes. Cheers went up to acknowledge individual successes, including a full sweep of ten grade 9s/8s (A**/A*) and several boys with grades 9-7 (A**/A*/A).
Our 2024 results are even better than those of 2023! It was lovely to see so many proud parents in the hall this morning. This Catholic boys’ comprehensive school in Hornsey Lane in Highgate has delivered another excellent set of GCSE results, despite the disruption of the Covid pandemic, the impact of the cost of living crisis and the RAAC building material issues last academic year.
The school secured 24% grades 7+, 65% grades 5+ and 79% grades 4+ (20%/51%/67% are respective 2024 national figures for boys)
Headteacher Paula Whyte commented: “We are so proud of our young men. They were very focused and worked diligently throughout, supported by their dedicated teachers and parents and families. Very evidently, this effort has been rewarded with excellent results, all of them richly deserved. It is very exciting to see our students about to start the next phase of their educational journey”.
Students were delighted with their individual results, including Jody Paul Namata who secured ten grade 9s/8s. Jody Paul thanked the staff for playing a huge role in his education and in his success: ‘I’m incredibly grateful’.
Ms Whyte goes on to say: “As Headteacher, I am extremely proud of what our pupils, staff and parents have achieved. Our OFSTED Section 5 report in July 2022 recognised that pupils at St Aloysius College work hard and achieve well, and that staff have high expectations of all pupils and want the very best for everyone. These 2024 GCSE results, in addition to our 2024 A-Level outcomes, are further testament to this. Our public exam results keep improving year on year! We are hoping to get the green light to welcome girls into our school community in Year7 in September 2025."
Prospective Year 7 parents for September 2025 are warmly invited to attend our Open Evening on Tuesday, October 1st, from 4.30-7.30pm, our Open Saturday on October 5th 9.00-11.00am, and our Open Mornings daily from Wednesday Oct 2nd to Fri Oct 18th, 9.15-10.15am. Everyone is welcome!
