St Aloysius' College is a high-achieving comprehensive boys' day school with a co-educational Sixth Form in Highgate, north London. We take pride in welcoming, educating, and nurturing students aged 11-18. As a voluntary aided school with a rich Catholic tradition, we are privileged to be the oldest surviving foundation of its kind in the Archdiocese of Westminster. Our commitment to academic excellence and holistic development makes St Aloysius' College a top choice for families seeking exceptional education in a diverse and supportive environment.
Joining St Aloysius' College means becoming part of a learning community that benefits from exceptional academic results, both on GCSE and A Level. We decisively exceeded the national average in all GCSE benchmark categories in 2024, with 70% of our students achieving a grade 4 or higher. Over a quarter excelled at grade 7 or above. And it doesn't stop there: our A Level results are equally impressive, with almost two thirds of our students finishing with A*-A-B.
A 2022 Ofsted inspection report shows that St Aloysius' College is a solidly good school. From leadership, to behaviour and academic and personal growth opportunities, we were recognised as going the extra mile for our students: 'St Aloysius pupils are happy, confident and polite,' the report states, pointing to a school where every pupil matters and is looked after in a caring and inspiring way.
Mental wellbeing is one of the buzzwords of our time. At St Aloysius’ College, we don’t just talk about it, we actively and practically support and nurture it – all in line with our Catholic ethos. We pride ourselves on offering outstanding pastoral care to all our students from day one.
We enjoy strong and growing links with our neighbours from the independent sector, Channing and Highgate schools. There is a whole range of academic and pastoral initiatives happening throughout the year, benefitting both us and our partners. We were also proud winners of the A-Level scholarship to Highgate public school for September 2023.
We have been providing exceptional education on our Hornsey Lane site since 1879. The founders of St Aloysius' College showed a lot of foresight when they built their institution on Highgate Hill, overlooking Islington borough and its neighbours, surrounded by a lot of natural green spaces. To this day, our students learn and grow in a beautiful and safe environment, including the unrivalled Sports Fields on Hurst Avenue, just a short walk away from our main premises.
We are delighted to announce that the Office of the School’s Adjudicator has officially confirmed that St. Aloysius College can welcome girls to Year 7 from September 2025!
