8W and 8P took part in the Future Zone, Islington Poetry competition this term. The competition involved students looking at a series of unusual poems and using these to inspire their own poems.
Over 500 poems were entered from 10 Islington schools. St Aloysius had 4 winners whose poems feature in the new Future Zone Anthology which Mr Walsh presented on Tuesday 17th December.
Our new poet laureate and overall winner, is Darren Ramirez in 8W, who won an Ipod shuffle and had his poem included in the anthology.
Congratulations to all the winners and participants. Mr. Leahy and Mrs. Sogojeva both commented on how enthusiastic and excited the students have been about the competition.
The winning poem:
Heartbroken Boy by Darren Ramirez, 8W
The tread of emotion sewed to my heart
A sting of words burst it apart
Dub-Dub dub-dub is all I can hear
I wish I can hear the sound of my tear
Vein popped as rage devours the scene
Emancipation of anger are so observe
My heart has crushed in a single glance
I’m still waiting to give one single dance
Now you’re gone and I am all alone
To numb my skin down to my bones
Withered feelings rat the last bit of joy
This is a story of a heart broken boy.
Young Writers Mini-Saga
In July, lots of students in Year 7 and 8 entered the national Young Writers Mini Saga Competition. Their challenge was to write a 100 word story with a twist at the end. Congratulations to...
In the autumn term, 7W and 8J3 participated in a 6 week Islington wide poetry project. Each week the classes explored a new poem and different techniques. The boys shared their poems and comments on other students’ poems through Fronter. The project culminated in a poetry competition on the theme of discovery. The anthology will be on display in the library soon.

I see a hill, but think of a mountain. I see a spring, but think of a fountain.
I see a lake, but think of the sea. I see a sapling, but think of a tree.
I see the mist, but think of a cloud. I see a group, but think of a crowd.
I see a sheep, but think of a flock. I see a port, but think of a dock.
I can see myself, but look beyond me. I have found myself, what I can be.
