Our Governors

Welcome all who are interested to learn more about St Aloysius’ College. I hope that after browsing this site you will feel inspired to want to send your son to St Aloysius’ and that you will recommend the College to other members of your families and friends.

St Aloysius’ College is a Catholic Secondary School which also has students from other faiths who value and acknowledge the benefits of our Catholic ethos. We have a team of dedicated teachers led by an excellent and experienced Head Teacher. We truly believe in the ethos that all children matter, and that every child has something to offer society and our aim is to encourage every pupil to reach their full potential.

We pride ourselves in aiming for and achieving the highest standards both in the class room and on the playing fields. (We are one of few state schools which still have playing fields.) The School has benefited from the Building Schools for the Future programme, acquiring new buildings and new state of the art facilities to assist the School in its drive for excellence.

The role of the Governing Body is strategic in:

  • Ensuring the vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school & its pupils, and the performance management of staff
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure the budget money is well spent

Governors are also responsible for appointing the Headteacher and Deputy Headteachers, determining how other staff are appointed, and pursuing policies for staff grievance, capability, discipline and sickness absence.

The Instrument of Government provides for a Governing Body of 12 members:

  • 7 Foundation Governors (appointed by the Diocese of Westminster)
  • 2 Parent Governors
  • The Headteacher
  • 1 Local Authority Governor (appointed by the London Borough of Islington)
  • 1 Staff Governor (elected by the school staff).

The business of the Governing Body is transacted at meetings held twice each term. Specific tasks may be delegated to committees who meet once each term.

We currently have an Interim Board for our school, consisting of 4 Foundation Governors, 1 Executive Headteacher, 1 Local Authority Governor, 1 Local Authority Observer and 1 Diocesan Observer whose details can be found below.
